Spanish Women’s Rugby Team Booked Place for Rio 2016: 'Las Leonas' Won Final Place

The Women rugby team of the Spain has recently claimed their qualification at the Rio Olympics 2016 just after one week of the Spain’s Men’s team has booked their place at Brazil for Rio. Spain has defeated the team of Russia 19-12 in the final tournament of the Olympic repechage in Dublin 26th of June 2016, Sunday for sealing the historic double.

Spain’s Women’s Rugby Well-Deserved Place at Rio 2016

Though men’s and women’s Rugby teams of Spain were qualified for Rio, women’s team was the favorites who are going to the competition as they reached the finals without compromising a single point which is in contrast with men’s team. 'Las Leonas' has taken over the lead when Patricia Garcia – the playmaker has seen the gap and moved suddenly over from very near range after 6 minutes supported by huge crowd of the expatriates of Spanish in Dublin. With the most powerful defence of the Spanish, Russians could not find the way and finally Spain has claimed their most deserved place in the Summer Olympics 2016 at Brazil.

Rio Spain's Women's Rugby Team

The qualification of Spain means they will be participating alongside Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Great Britain, France, USA, Japan, Kenya, Fiji, Colombia and the host country Brazil when the competition for the women gets happening on 6th of August at the venue. All the matches of the rugby at Rio 2016 will happen in Deodoro Olympic Park in the western Rio.
