Brendon de Jonge has become one of the latest golfers who have withdrawn from the Rio 2016 Olympics after few other golfers opted out of Rio fearing about the Zika Virus. Unlike those golfers, this Zimbabwean has opted out of the Rio sports for focusing on putting his PGA Tour card. Brendon de Jonge who at present is in the 16th position of the FedEx Cup points have to do some more work for maintaining his PGA Tour Card. This is the reason, he have withdrawn from Summer Olympics 2016 and decided for playing the 2 events on the PGA tour at the time of Rio August Olympics.
De Jong and Other High Profile Golfers Withdrawn from Rio Having Different Concerns
The 35 year old De Jonge has said in a statement that, he is disappointed truly, but that his present place in the list of the FedEx Cup points will not allow him the luxury for skipping the traveler championship or the John Deere Classic. He then added that, he needs to finish it in the top 125 in order to gain entry in to the playoffs of FedEx Cup saying that this has to be priority for him as well as his family too. The person later said that his concern is not about the Zika virus and it is completely a business decision. He also told that it would have been a great honor for playing for his nation.
Rory McIlroy who belongs to the Northern Ireland and Jason Day who belongs to Australia where the high profile golfers who have opted out of Rio in which the sport is back to Olympics for the first time after 1904 having concerns about the Zika Virus.
