Rio Summer Olympics 2016: Lindsey Vonn and Jordan Spieth to Skip Rio over Zika Virus

As Summer August 2016 Olympics is nearing, the number of athletes opting to skip out of the Rio has been increasing because of the fears over Zika Virus. In the past few weeks, top male golfers of the world along with Dustin Johnson have withdrawn from the game saying that he and his fiancée had their plans of expanding their family and that they don’t wanted to fall in the risk being vulnerable to Zika.

Olympians Lindsey Vonn and Jordan Spieth to Not Travel to Rio

Out of 60 male gold players who have been invited for the Rio 2016, 21 athletes have already skipped out of the race with the fear that is linked up between the Zika virus and its microcephaly birth defect which even leads to many other conditions in the kids. For those men who are planning to get in to the family life, Zika is a big concern as it can also be transmitted via sexual contact.

Latest Olympians to Skip Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games

The 22-year-old Jordan Spieth is the latest to skip out of the Rio i.e., Tuesday stating of the on the whole health concern. The 2004 all round champion, Carly Patterson has said that she is not being a contributor to the Rio games this year and even the Lindsey Vonn the Olympic skier is also not participating at Rio. The other defectors of USA include those stars, Tejay van Garderen – the cyclist, and NBA stars LeBron James and Steph Curry. And the latest, Savannah Guthrie who has been a pregnant carrying second child will not be travelling to the Rio de Janeiro.
