Mark Cavendish Focuses on Rio 2016 Olympic Glory Leaving Tour De France

On 19th of July 2016, Thursday, Mark Cavendish - one of the leading cyclists of the world on both track as well as road has confirmed that he is leaving the Tour de France this year for concentrating on the preparations for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

The sprint star Cavendish has told that, the heat and fatigue of the past two weeks in the France has threatened him of compromising his preparation for the games. The man from island of Man will be representing the GB Team in Rio and is going to come up with strong form for the games by winning the four stages of the Tour de France and spending his time in both green jersey and yellow jersey.

Cycling Champions to Compete Alongside Cavendish at Rio 2016

In 2011, Mark Cavendish has completed in the top of the Tour de France classification of the points and he has been the runner up of the 2009, 2010 and 2013 years. Than Cavendish, the only legend of the Belgian Eddy Merckx has more stage wins i.e., 34 and Cavendish has only 30 stage wins.

In Rio 2016, Cavendish is planning to make his mark in the track tournaments and he will be participating in the men’s Omnium at new Velodrome of the Rio Olympics. His team-mate Sir Bradley Wiggins is going to make his final appearance in the Rio Summer Olympics 2016. Same as the Cavendish, Wiggins is also an accomplished operator of both track and road. Along with Cavendish and Wiggins, fellow cyclist of the British Chris Froome will also be joining at the Roads of the Rio and apart from the track.

The men’s road race team of the Great Britain will even have Steven Cummings along with Froome, Geraint Thomas, Ian Stannard and Adam Yates.
